Como Città dei Balocchi

Whether you plan to stay in Como (here a list of our favorite Luxury stays) or a just passing through with one of our tours Como is stunning in winter, as the business owners of this city year after year plan a stunning light show on the historical buildings of the city center. Walk around town for some Christmas shopping (we have some suggestions here), taste local food and let the magical atmosphere fill you.

Lake Como Lights

Not only Como lights up at Christmas… Many of the hamlets that dot the lakeshores don their best outfit lighting the facade of their houses. And Lecco also illuminates the city center with beautiful warm lights and a show. Enjoy the show with our tour. Book now our Lecco Food Tour  to discover this city during winter!

Fiaccolate (Torchlight procession)

Every year on December 23rd many of us put their hiking gear and headlight on and hike on the mountains surrounding the lake for a nocturnal hike. There are walks for all feets, easy walks in the woods for families and steeper climbs for those who are more expert. Particularly striking is the San Martino one, walk to the small church to enjoy the evening mass and later stay for vin brulè (Mulled Wine) and a bonfire at the nearby hut.

Christmas Shopping

As suggested earlier Lake Como, and Italy in general, is great for shopping whether it’s for Christmas (here is our guide) or to get the best of sales (that usually start right after Christmas holidays).  Where to shop?? Well that’s easy Milan is fashion capital for a good reason, but even Bergamo, Monza, Como and Lecco have really nice shops in their city centers where you can say goodbye to fast fashion and cheap souvenirs to get the best of local artisans and the more famous Made in Italy luxury brands.

.

Enjoy snow

Are you an expert skier or snowboarder? Then Lecco is where you should stay! Piani di Bobbio, Bormio, Livigno, Madesimo but even the Alps of Engadin are within driving distance from the town, making it easy for a day trip.

Not into snow sports but still fancy to see the snow? Then we can arrange for a snow shoes walk in the woods with a stop in a hut for local food and glass of red wine or a romantic

SPA Day

Why should I come all the way to Lake Como for a spa day? Well… your regular spa just doesn’t have the rich history like the ones we will take you! The ancient roman baths in Bormio will make you feel the thrill of diving into a history over two thousand years old. Imagine walking in a grotto leading to a thermal spring, exploring the original architecture and soaking in the panoramic outdoor pool while it snows around you! We guarantee a full immersion in nature for  a  timeless feeling of wellness. Day trip or overnight stay in a luxurious room decorated in true alpine style? Either way we know you’ll be hungry and ready to taste local delicacies maybe with our Valtellina wine tasting tour

Taste local food

Well… Winter and cozy time eating food by the fire are a perfect match, if you ask me!

Pizzoccheri, Sciatt, Risotto alla Milanese or with Pesce Persico are definitely a must but also polenta with stewed meat paired with a good glass of Red Wine are a NOT TO MISS! We know and love to work with local restaurants, crotti and agriturismi where the food is made like tradition demands with that modern twist that will definitely make your taste buds dance. Want a Michelin starred experience? Just ask, we know where to take you!

  1. If you are a sweet tooth like me here is our IG guide for the typical Christmast sweets you should try and where to find the best Panettone.
